KYLE O'MARA - 813 SERIES
Claire has had a life long love for our sport. From being a competitive bowler averaging
in the 180’s, to bowling in numerous women’s national tournaments, a member of the board of
directors of the Hudson County 600 club, being on both the County and NJ state boards, and
being inducted into the Hudson County Hall of Fame for Meritorious Service. However, her
greatest achievement is bringing that zeal for this sport to the children. Her daughters,
grandchildren, nieces and all the youth bowlers that benefited from their experiences with the
youth program Claire started.
Claire started a version of the family fun league in Bowl-Rite then migrated south to
Roosevelt lanes where Claire had not one but two large youth bowling leagues. One was strictly
for bowling and the other a vacation league. The first trip was to Disney world.
Running the leagues did not just encompass the business of the leagues but sometimes
having a fun night out to the Meadow lands for the adults, league trips to Medieval Times, Hershey Park, and even Busch Gardens in Virginia. This took a lot of time and effort over and
above the league work.
Finally, when Roosevelt Lanes closed Claire migrated again, this time to Hudson Lanes
where both the Family Fun League and the Youth Scholarship Doubles still flourish.
Claire has not only donated her life and energy to insuring that the league’s members
have a competitive but fun league for new bowlers and experienced ones but also, in many instances, her own money. Whatever is necessary to make sure that the leagues and the children flourish. And of course there are the numerous tournaments and fundraisers she runs so that the youth members of our league have ample opportunities to earn scholarship money.
This is Claire’s very impressive legacy to the sport of bowling and the league members
she has so ably and tirelessly serves.
